Raamatullista lastenkasvatusta / Biblical upbringing

Olen miettinyt pyhäkoulustakin tuttua teemaa ”Jeesus ja lapset”. Mutta en kuitenkaan siitä perinteisestä ”lastenkaltaisten on taivasten valtakunta” –näkökulmasta, vaan Jeesuksen esimerkkiä seuraavan vanhemman näkökulmasta. Kristittynä äitinä ja vanhempana haluan myös kasvattaa lapseni niin kuin Jeesus kasvatti. Mutta hetkinen, eihän Jeesus kasvattanut lapsia! Uutta Testamenttia lukiessa kuitenkin voi melko helposti löytää ihmisjoukon joita Jeesus kasvatti hyvin samankaltaisesti kuin hyvä vanhempi kasvattaa lapsiaan. Seuraavista Matteuksen evankeliumin jakeista voi löytää Jeesuksen kasvatusperiaatteita joita mekin vanhempina voimme toteuttaa. Lisää Jeesuksen kasvatusperiaatteita löytyy muualta Raamatusta. Listaa voi jatkaa vaikka kuinka pitkälle. Miksi et kokeilisi näitä lastesi kanssa?

1. Jeesuksella oli auktoriteettia. (Matt. 4:18-22, 7:28-29)

2. Hän oli läsnä. (Matt. 5:1)

3. Hän opetti heille elämästä ja Raamatusta. (Matt. 5)

4. Hän opetti heidät rukoilemaan. (6:5-15)

5. Hän auttoi hädässä. (8:23-26)

6. Hän kehotti evankelioimaan. (10:5-7, 28:16-20)

7. Hän rukoili ääneen heidän kuullensa. (11:25-26)

8. Hän otti aikaa itselleen. (14:13)

9. Hän otti aikaa rukoukseen yksinäisyydessä. (14:22-23)

10. Hän siunasi ruoan. (14:18-20, 26:26)

11. Hän nuhteli heitä tarvittaessa. (16:23)

12. Hän lauloi heidän kanssaan. (26:30)

13. Hän kertoi ahdistuksestaan heille kertomatta kuitenkaan liikaa. (26:36-38)

14. Hän rukoili ja kehotti rukoukseen ahdistuksessa. (26:39-41)

I’ve thought about a theme which is known from sunday school, ”Jesus and children”. But not from the traditional ”the kingdom of heaven belongs to children” point of view, but from the point of view of a parent following Jesus’ example. As a Christian mum and a parent I want to raise my children as Jesus did. But wait, Jesus didn’t raise children! However, reading the New Testament one can rather easily find a group of people that Jesus raised very similarly to a good parent raising their children. From the following verses of Matthew one can find Jesus’ upbringing principles that we as parents can follow. More of Jesus’ upbringing principles can be found elsewhere in the Bible. The list goes on forever. Why not try these with your children?

1. Jesus had authority. (Matt. 4:18-22, 7:28-29)

2. He was present. (Matt. 5:1)

3. He taught them about life and the Bible. (Matt. 5)

4. He taught them to pray. (6:5-15)

5. He helped them in need. (8:23-26)

6. He told them to spread the Good News. (10:5-7, 28:16-20)

7. He prayed aloud in their hearing. (11:25-26)

8. He had some time alone apart from them. (14:13)

9. He had some time praying alone. (14:22-23)

10. He gave thanks before eating. (14:18-20, 26:26)

11. He scolded them when needed. (16:23)

12. He sang with them. (26:30)

13. He told about his anxiety without telling too much. (26:36-38)

14. He prayed and told to pray when in agony. (26:39-41)

15. He loved them (so much that he died for their sins). (26:26-29)

Laupias samarialainen? / The good samaritan?

Today in the church the sermon was about the good samaritan and spiritual vision. I have to admit I could not listen to the whole speech, because I was taking care of my two small children. Especially the talk about the good samaritan made me think. We have heard the story many times. You think you would be the good samaritan if you would face the situation, right? That is how I have always thought as well. But this time this Bible story really touched me. A week ago, when we were driving to the church, we saw a man who was walking in ragged clothes with a beer bottle in his back pocket. After driving past him a said to my husband that we could stop and ask the man to come to the church.

I would like to write that we asked him to come to the church offering him a ride, and that we promised to buy him lunch after the meeting. I would like to write that I squashed myself to the back seat between two children's seats only for the man to fit in our car. I would like to write that he came to the meeting with us, had lunch with us after it, and visibly felt that somebody cared about him regardless of his appearance. I would like to write that we took his contact information promising that we could give him a ride to the church again.

As you may guess, this did not happen. I buried the thought of giving that clearly drunken man a ride to the church, though the thought did not leave my mind. Today I realised I had made the wrong choice. That is why in my heart I promised God to make the right choice next time. Next time I do not want to be the priest or the levite, but I want to be the good samaritan. Do you?

Tänään kokouksessa puhuttiin laupiaasta samarialaisesta ja hengellisestä näkökyvystä. Täytyy myöntää etten pystynyt kuuntelemaan koko puhetta, koska hoidin kahta pientä lastani. Erityisesti puhe laupiaasta samarialaisesta kuitenkin sai minut ajattelemaan. Olemme monet kerrat kuulleet tuon tarinan. Eikö niin, että uskoisit olevasi laupias samarialainen jos tosi tilanne tulisi? Niin minäkin olen aina ajatellut. Mutta tällä kertaa tämä Raamatunkertomus todellakin kosketti minua. Viikko sitten, kun olimme menossa autolla kokoukseen, näimme matkalla miehen, joka käveli resuisissa vaatteissa kaljapullo takataskussa. Hänet ohitettuamme sanoin miehelleni, että voisimme pysähtyä ja pyytää miestä kokoukseen.

Haluaisin kirjoittaa, että pyysimme häntä kokoukseen tarjoten kyytiä, ja että lupasimme tarjota hänelle kokouksen jälkeen lounaan. See, I am doing a new thing! Katso, minä teen uutta!

A while ago I was going through some hard times. I thought that I can't take this, it's too much for me to handle. I was tired and it was hard to see the point in all the things I was experiencing. But the thing that disturbed me most was the fact that I hadn't had time to read the Bible or listen to what God wanted to tell me. I cried out to God, and against all odds (I thought), he answered me in my distress.

I suddenly thought of a bible passage I hadn't heard for a long time. I looked for the passage in the Bible and I found it. I read it out loud crying. I hope the passage will help you who are in distress as it helped me.


Isaiah 43:1-5, 18-19

1. But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2. When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3. For I am the LORD your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush and Seba in your stead.
4. Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life
5. Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
18. Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19. See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness

Jokin aika sitten minulla oli vaikea vaihe elämässäni. Ajattelin etten voi kestää tätä, tämä on minulle liikaa kestettäväksi. Olin väsynyt ja oli vaikeaa nähdä mikä tarkoitus tällä kaikella kokemallani oli. Mutta minua häiritsi eniten se, ettei minulla ollut ollut aikaa lukea Raamattua tai kuunnella mitä Jumala halusi puhua minulle. Huusin Jumalan puoleen, ja vastoin odotuksiani hän vastasi minulle ahdistuksessani.

Minulle tuli yhtäkkiä mieleen Raamatunkohta jota en ollut kuullut pitkään aikaan. Etsin kohtaa Raamatusta ja löysin sen. Luin sen ääneen itkien. Toivon että Raamatunkohta auttaa sinua joka olet ahdistunut niinkuin se auttoi minua.

Jesaja 43:1-5, 18-19

1. Mutta nyt, näin sanoo Herra, joka loi sinut, Jaakob, joka valmisti
sinut, Israel: Älä pelkää, sillä minä olen lunastanut sinut, minä olen sinut nimeltä kutsunut; sinä olet minun.
2. Jos vetten läpi kuljet, olen minä sinun kanssasi, jos virtojen läpi, eivät ne sinua upota; jos tulen läpi käyt, et sinä kärvenny, eikä liekki sinua polta.

Rauha joka kantaa läpi elämän / The peace that will last for a lifetime

Ihmiset etsivät rauhaa elämäänsä. Joku uskoo löytävänsä rauhan alkoholista tai huumeista. Tällainen ihminen saattaa ajatella, että elämä on liikaa kestettäväksi, ja että pään sekaisin saaminen rauhoittaa. Joku on varma, että kunhan raha-asiat ovat järjestyksessä, niin sitten ei tarvitse enää murehtia mistään. Hän saattaa ajatella, että hyväpalkkainen työ on avain onneen. Joku luottaa siihen, että perheen ja ystävien luoma turvaverkko suojelee kaikelta pahalta, ja että siihen voi luottaa vaikka mitä tapahtuisi.

Mutta ennemmin tai myöhemmin jokainen huomaa, ettei mikään näistä asioista tuo pysyvää rauhaa sydämeen. Tulee päivä, jolloin huomaat, ettei mikään näistä, edes perhe tai ystävät, tuo rauhaa sydämeesi ja elämäntilanteeseesi. Tulee päivä, jolloin huomaat olevasi aivan yksin ja rauhaton.

Mutta tiedätkö mitä? Et ole kuitenkaan yksin! Jeesus on vierelläsi. Hän on nähnyt sinun elämäsi alusta alkaen. Hän tietää kaikki ne virheet mitä olet tehnyt, ja Hän rakastaa sinua siitä huolimatta! Hän tarjoaa sinulle anteeksiantoa jos vain haluat ottaa sen vastaan. Se on niin yksinkertaista! Usko siihen, että Jeesus on kuollut myös sinun syntiesi edestä ristillä (koska se on totta!) niin saat todellisen ja pysyvän rauhan, jollaista et saa mistään muualta.

Joh. 14:27: Rauhan minä jätän teille: minun rauhani - sen minä annan teille. En minä anna teille, niinkuin maailma antaa. Älköön teidän sydämenne olko murheellinen älköönkä pelätkö.

People are looking for peace in their lives. Some believe they can find peace by using alcohol or drugs. They may think that life is too much to handle and that getting their head messed up will help. Some are sure that once they get their finances straight, they won't have to worry about a thing. They may think that a well-paid job is the way to happiness. Some trust that their family and friends will protect them from every evil, and that it's a fact that can be relied on no matter what.

However, sooner or later everyone will notice that none of these things will bring permanent peace in one's heart. There will come a day when you notice that none of these things, not even family and friends, will bring peace in your heart and your situation. There will come a day when you realize you're all alone and restless.

But you know what? You're not alone after all! Jesus is right by your side! He has seen your life from the beginning. He knows all the mistakes you've made and he loves you none the less! He offers you forgiveness if you want to receive it. It's just that simple! Believe that Jesus has died for also your sins on the cross (because it's true!) and you'll have real, permanent peace, that you cannot have from anywhere else.

John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Mitä tavoittelet? What is your goal?

Olen tässä pari päivää miettinyt, että mitä minä tavoittelen elämässäni. Mitkä ovat motiivini tekemiini asioihin, ja mihin tähtään elämässä? Monilla elämän päämäärät liittyvät työhön, perheeseen tai joihinkin muihin periaatteessa hyviin asioihin, kuten onnellisuuteen. Mutta koin, että nyt on aika miettiä omien motiivieni sijaan Jumalan motiiveja. Emme tiedä, mitä kaikkea Jumala on elämäämme varten suunnitellut, mutta kaikille meille on suunnitelma, jota Jumala haluaisi meidän toteuttavan. Olen rukoillut arjen keskellä, että "Jumala, anna minun tänäänkin elää SINUN suunnitelmasi mukaan, sen sijaan että eläisin oman suunnitelmani mukaan". Koen että nyt on aika lopettaa itseensä ja omiin mahdollisuuksiin keskittyminen, ja sen sijaan suunnata katse Jumalaan ja Hänen mahdollisuuksiinsa. Luuk. 13:6-9

Ja hän puhui tämän vertauksen: "Eräällä miehellä oli viikunapuu istutettuna viinitarhassaan; ja hän tuli etsimään hedelmää siitä, mutta ei löytänyt. Niin hän sanoin viinitarhurille: 'Katso, kolmena vuotena minä olen käynyt etsimässä hedelmää tästä viikunapuusta, mutta en ole löytänyt. Hakkaa se pois; mitä varten se vielä maata laihduttaa?' Mutta tämä vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: 'Herra, anan sen olla vielä tämä vuosi; sillä aikaa minä kuokin ja lannoitan maan sen ympäriltä. Ehkä se ensi vuonna tekee hedelmää; mutta jos ei, niin hakkaa se pois.'"

Olen huomannut, että kun olen rukoillut, että saisin tehdä mitä Jumala haluaa minun tekevän, niin tilanteita on tullut joka päivä, joissa olen saanut olla Jumalan valona. En ole "lyönyt ketään Raamatulla päähän", vaan olen tehnyt pieniä tekoja, joita Jumala on laskenut sydämelleni. Olen tutustunut uusiin ihmisiin, joiden kanssa olen saanut keskustella, ja ennen kaikkea kuunnella heitä. Kun hakeutuu Jumalan läheisyyteen rukouksessa ja Raamatunluvussa, niin Jumalan ääni on jotenkin helpompi kuulla kaiken metelin keskellä. Kun lähdet seuraavan kerran ulos kävelylle tai ajelulle, niin pyydä että Jumala saisi johdattaa sinua niin että saisit tänäänkin elää HÄNEN suunnitelmansa mukaan. Kun teet niitä pieniä tekoja, joita Jumala on tarkoittanut sinun tekevän, niin saat tehdä niitä ilolla ja kiitoksella.

For a couple of days I've been wondering what is my goal in life. What are my motives for the things I do, and what do I aim at? For many, the goals in life have to do with work, family, or other things that are basically good, like happiness. But I felt that now is the time to think about God's motives instead of mine. We don't know all the things God has planned for our lives, but for all of us there is a plan that God would want us to fulfill. I've been praying in my daily life that "God let me live according to YOUR plan again today, instead of living according to my plan". I feel that now is the time to stop looking at yourself and focusing on your possibilities, instead, look at God and His possibilities. Do you want to work for the kingdom of God?
Luke 13:6-9

Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

I've noticed that when I've prayed that I could do what God wants me to do, everyday there have been situations, where I have had the chance to be God's light. I have not "hit anyone with the Bible", but I have done small things that God has given on my heart. I have met new people who I've had the chance to talk with, and moreover to listen to them. When you draw near to God in prayer and reading the Bible, it is somehow easier to hear God's voice in the midst of all the noise. The next time you  go out for a walk or for a drive, ask that God could lead you so that you could live according to HIS plan again today. When you do the small things God has meant you to do, you can do them with joy and thankfulness.

Israel

Minulla on nykyään rukoushetkiä useampikin päivässä, vaikka ne ovat kylläkin enemmän pieniä huokaushetkiä. Pieni tyttäreni ei anna minun keskittyä rukoukseen, koska hän haluaa minun keskittyvän itseensä. Mutta kun hän nukkuu päiväunet niin ehdin lukea Raamattua ja rukoilla siinä samalla vähäsen. Eilen kun olin lukenut Raamattua koin että olin niin syntinen Herran edessä että minun täytyi mennä polvilleni kasvot lattiaan, ja huokailin Jumalalle. Siinä tilanteessa sain seuraavat sanat:

"Israel, Israel, voi kuinka tahtoisin koota sinut maan ääristä uuten Jerusalemiin, kultakaupunkiin. Herran valtaistuimen edessä kaikki kansat joutuvat tuomiolle epäjumalanpalveluksestaan. Voi Israel, haluaisin ympäröidä sinut rakkaudellani. Maan kansat, siunatkaa Israelia, siunatkaa, älkää kirotko. Israel on Jumalan valittu, esikoinen. Kansat ihmettelevät, sillä Herra on koonnut kansansa yhteen ylistämään Hänen pyhää nimeään. Shalom, rauha kanssanne Israel. Missä ovat sotajoukot, missä ovat vastustajasi? Aamu valkenee ja vastustajasi ovat poissa. Herra on pelastanut kansansa pahan ansasta. Kiittäkää Herraa, kaikki luodut, sillä Herran päivä on lähellä!"

5. Moos. 4:27-31

Ja Herra hajottaa teidät kansojen sekaan, ja ainoastaan vähäinen joukko teitä on jäävä niiden pakanakansojen keskelle, joiden tykö Herra teidät kuljettaa. Ja siellä te palvelette jumalia, jotka ovat ihmiskätten tekoa, puuta ja kiveä, jotka eivät näe eivätkä kuule, eivät syö eivätkä hajua tunne. Mutta sitten sinä siellä etsit Herraa, sinun Jumalaasi, ja sinä löydät hänet, kun kysyt häntä kaikesta sydämestäsi ja kaikesta sielustasi. Nowadays I have several moments of prayer during the day, though they are more of a little moments of sighing. My little daughter doesn't let me focus on prayer, because she wants me to focus on her. But when she takes her nap I have time to read the Bible and pray a little at the same time. Yesterday when I had been reading the Bible I felt that I was so ungodly and a sinner before the Lord that I had to kneel down and go facedown on the floor, and I was sighing to God. In that situation I got the following words:

"Israel, Israel, oh how I would want to gather you from the ends of the earth to the new Jerusalem, the golden city. In front of the Lord's throne all nations will be judged for their idolatry. Oh Israel, I would want to surround you with my love. Peoples on earth, bless Israel, bless, do not curse. Israel is God's chosen one, the first born. Nations are in awe, because the Lord has gathered His people together to praise His holy name. Shalom, peace be with you Israel. Where are the armies, where are your opposers? The morning is breaking and your opposers are gone. The Lord has saved His people from the evil's trap. Thank the Lord, all creation, because the Lord's day is near!"

Finally, I'd like to share a Bible passage about this subject that touched me today:

Deut 4:27-31

The Lord will scatter you among other nations, where only a few of you will survive. There you will serve gods made by human hands, gods of wood and stone, gods that cannot see or hear, eat or smell. There you will look for the Lord your God, and if you search for him with all your heart, you will find him. When you are in trouble and all those things happen to you, then you will finally turn to the Lord and obey him. He is a merciful God. He will not abandon you or destroy you, and he will not forget the covenant that he himself made with your ancestors.

Pyhity tänään!

Uskon että Jumala kutsuu omiaan pyhittymään ja puhdistautumaan, sillä Hänen ilmestymisensä on lähellä (2. Moos. 19:10-11). Meidän ainoa oikea puhdistuksemme on Jeesuksen veri, joka puhdistaa meidät kaikesta synnistä. Vain Jeesuksen veri on Herralle kelpaava uhri. Aaronin pojat kuolivat tulessa koska he antoivat vääränlaisen uhrin Herralle (3. Moos. 10:1-3). Vaikka tarkoittaisimme hyvää tarjotessamme Jumalalle hyviä tekojamme, niin ne yksin eivät säästä meitä tuolta tulelta. Vain Jeesuksen veri voi pelastaa meidät, ja vain se on Herralle kelpaava uhri. Ja se riittää!

Vaikka paholainen voi sanoa meille samalla tavalla kuin Goljat Daavidille: "Tuollako varustuksella kuvittelet minut voittavasi?" (1. Sam. 17:37-50), niin usko Jeesukseen riittää! Se on meidän haarniskamme. Daavid uskoi että Jumala voisi pelastaa hänet tuon filistealaisen kynsistä, ja niin Jumala pelastikin. Me emme voi millään muulla varustuksella taistella paholaista vastaan. Me emme voi millään hyvillä teoilla korvata tuota varustusta, ja mikään muu ase ei kelpaa tässä hengellisessä sodassa (Matt. 26:50-53).

Me pyhitymme uskosta, samalla tavalla kuin Aabraham ja Daniel. Usko ja luottamus Jumalaan luettiin heille vanhurskaudeksi ja sen kautta he pelastuivat (1. Moos. 15:6, Dan. 6:23). Älä usko paholaisen väitteitä, vaan pyhity tänään tunnustamalla syntisi ja turvaamalla Jeesukseen. Sitten olet valmis kun Herra saapuu kirkkaudessaan.

I believe God is calling His own people to consecrate and purify themselves, because He will soon appear (Ex. 19:10-11). Our only purification is Jesus' blood, which cleanses us from all sin. Only Jesus' blood is an offering that the Lord will accept. Aaron's sons died in the fire because they gave a wrong kind of offering to the Lord (Lev. 10:1-3). Though we might mean well when offering our good deeds to God, they alone will not save us from that fire. Only Jesus' blood can save us, and that is the only offering that is acceptable for the Lord. And it is enough!

Though the devil might say the same thing to us that Goliath said to David: "Do you think you can conquer me with that armour?" (1. Sam. 17:37-50), but believing in Jesus is enough! It is our armour. David believed God could save him from that philistine, and God did. We cannot fight against the devil with any other armour. We cannot replace that armour with any good deeds, and any other weapon will not work in this spiritual war (Matt. 26:50-53).

We are sanctified by believing, in the same way as Abraham and Daniel were. Belief and trust in God consecrated them and through them they were saved (Gen. 15:6, Dan. 6:23). Do not believe the devil's arguments, but instead purify yourself today by asking forgiveness for your sins and trusting in Jesus. Then you'll be ready when the Lord will come in His glory.
